APC and I would assume others offer an interface where the UPS tells the computer to shut down. I have used that with Linux. I think Fedora has it already installed.

You would want to couple the top side of fit-PC to the side wall of the cabinet for best thermal conduction. I suggest a U shape bracket hugging the fit-PC, or a metal band. I am installing a Rev 1.4 fitpc2 in a large metal cabinet with an open back. I plan on attaching the fitpc to the side of the cabinet to both keep the install need looking and take advantage of the large heat-sink capability of such a structure.
