Re: 9.10 Install without wired ethernet

If you have a desktop machine running Windows nearby you can share your wireless connection with a short cross-over cable. That's what I did with my latest install of minimal ubuntu and it was much easier than dealing with a long cable to my router in the basement.

Re: Linux on USB

That's how I actually ended up installing. I put a live cd onto a flash disk and using it installed a proper install onto another flash disk. I say just skip the extra step and have a proper install.

Re: Linux on USB

I bought the diskless version and as a Windows user it was not exactly trivial for me to get a proper Linux install onto a USB key. Now that I am more familiar with Linux, sure no problem, but initially it was quite the hassle. So yeah.. This is a good idea. Also.. I think that it should be a proper...

Re: Remote power on

You could mount a micro hobby servo on the case and have it toggle the button mechanically.

Re: How to install OS on USB stick?

Did you successfully install onto another flash disk or onto a hard drive? My fit-pc2 application needs to remain diskless. I currently have Linux running from a flash disk, but I would not mind having another flash disk to run Win7 if needed.

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 install issues

I had a similar black screen issue after poulsbo driver install. The gist of how it got resolved was that I put the desktop into 640x480 just before rebooting after installing the poulsbo drivers. More details on my journey here: http://www.fit-pc2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=1150&start=29 The th...

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 supported

More success! I have the video drivers working now. Installed the poulsbo driver on its own, but before I rebooted I put the desktop into 640x480 and now it worked! Trying out other modes ( and letting it auto-switch back if they fail ) it looks like I can only go up to 1024x768 even though my monit...

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 supported

Success. I now finally have wireless! Video does seem faster, but it could be my imagination.

I only did linux-image-2.6.31-34-fitpc2 and I did not purge anything.

Do I need xserver-xorg-video-poulsbo to get video hardware acceleration?

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 supported

I made it a bit further.. I think. This time I used unetbootin to put the desktop iso onto a 1GB flash drive. I then plugged in both my 1GB and my 8GB flash drives making sure to boot from the 1GB drive. After booting I did a regular install onto the 8GB drive. After installation I did followed the ...
