Native Linux Graphics Support (i.e. no more GMA500 madness)
It's really a pity that this nice device now stucks with Ubuntu 9.10 just because there is no reasonable support for the graphics chip. I hope that successors of fitpc2 take these "lessons learned" and ship with actively supported hardware... In that case one would be able to choose other distributi...

Re: System hangs in gdm splash screen
Should be something like apt-get install xdm and afterwards according to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=121656 place /usr/bin/xdm in /etc/X11/default-display-manager Another way could be to remove gdm (this is what I did), but I'm not sure if the rest of gnome is depending on gdm. I'm usin...

Re: System hangs in gdm splash screen
I've had also problems with logging in using gdm; for me switching to xdm has resolved the problem. Maybe you want to give it a try?

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 or something else
Hi elupus, In my opinion, you should stay with IEGD if you'd like to head to the future. Compared with the psb driver, the IEGD has definitely advantages in OpenGL support. Moreover it seems to be actively supported by Intel. Vaapi has worked for me with mplayer with IEGD 10.2. The only issue I had ...

Re: IEGD 10.3.1
Short update: The drm_test error message was related to an incomplete driver installation. After copying all files to the appropriate places (in the spirit of intel's install.sh for Fedora 7), this message disappeared. Everything else above is still valid.

IEGD 10.3.1
I've just installed the new IEGD driver 10.3.1 following the instructions from http://www.nanoant.com/linux/compiling-kernel-iegd-10x-module-for-any-linux-distribution/comment-page-2 . The only odd I've observed is that the drm_test utility included in the driver has failed saying DRM module failed ...

Re: Sound
Lately I've had the problem that my user somehow was not listed in needed groups. If you try
sudo aplay -l
do things change for you? If so you might add the user to the audio group.

Unable to log in after update
Suddenly I'm unable to log in after an update. Symptom is that kdm is up and running, but after entering password, screen goes black for a very short time and then kdm is shown again. Before the update everything ran OK (with the iegd driver). I've noticed that some xorg-intel stuff has been install...

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 supported
Thank you guys for working on that. It is good to see that there is active support from compuware. I'd like to give some status about my setup: 1. Upgrading from 8.04 was not a good idea. I ended up with errors in the package system, and doing really hacky things with the cache - afterwards Xorg cou...

Re: NR_CPUS limited to 1 - why?
I find this a bit annoying as well. Having linux pre-installed by compulab I've expected that the OS supports all the announced components. This is not true for at least the following (and I'd say it is only partly true for the GMA500): 1. CPU (hyperthreading disabled) 2. LIRC (and no, I don't want ...
